WHEREAS sexual assault is one of the most underreported and pervasive forms of violence in Canada;
WHEREAS only 6% of sexual assaults were reported to the police in 2019; WHEREAS only 45% of Canadians fully understand what consent entails; WHEREAS there is a sharp increase in cases of sexual violence during the first 6 weeks of the school year; and
WHEREAS Consent Awareness Week will serve as an annual reminder of everyone’s right to be respected and safe in all spaces;
THEREFORE WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to adopt the Consent Awareness Week Act, 2025 to declare the third week of September Consent Awareness Week and encourage consent education in Ontario.
