WHEREAS Ontario is seeing record-setting heatwaves across the province WHEREAS there have been alarming reports of tenants being unable to install air conditioning units in their apartments
WHEREAS extreme heat is putting lives at risk; especially for seniors, low-income renters, and people with disabilities
WHEREAS we need maximum temperature regulations to protect renters WHEREAS the Hot Days, Cool Homes Act, 2026 would cap apartment temperatures at 26C and require landlords to treat cooling as a vital service to their tenants
Therefore we the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
- Respect the health, safety and dignity of tenants by establishing a maximum temperature law for all rental units in Ontario
- Pass the Hot Days, Cool Homes Act, 2026
